This Easy Healthy Gluten-Free Apple Crisp is a yummy desert that is dairy free and egg free. A great topping for ice cream, pancakes, or waffles and delicious on ham.
Easy Healthy Gluten-Free Apple Crisp is one of my favorite recipes. I frequently return to it when I need to satisfy a sweet-tooth urge, but want a healthy treat for my family.
It’s also a wonderful way to use up an over abundance of apples in the house, which often happens in my home because I like to buy in bulk! That is especially the case when fresh organic apples are in season. Also, with lots of apples on hand, I can change up the flavor of Easy Healthy Gluten-Free Apple Crisp by using different types of apples or even mixing reds, yellows and greens together. This means the Easy Healthy Gluten-Free Apple Crisp turns out slightly different each time. But who wants everything to taste exactly the same? Boring, right? I knew you’d agree with me! My family does as well (they have no choice in the matter, since I’m Head Chef).
You’ve probably noticed that my photos show a bag of frozen, chopped apples. I’ll let you in on a time-saving secret: As I make the first Easy Healthy Gluten-Free Apple Crisp, I continue to cut up apples for another crisp or two. Apples will keep in the freezer for 3-6 months. This is a great time-saver for an easy future dessert and doesn’t take up much freezer space. It’s also an efficient way to store those apples that are past their prime (not the greatest to eat raw but great cooked).
I put the apples in a freezer storage bag, add 1/2 can of Zevia, then label and freeze. The Zevia flavors we like best in Easy Healthy Gluten-Free Apple Crisp are Black Cherry or Dr. Zevia. The soda keeps the apples from turning colors, while adding the needed moisture to the final baked good. As an added health bonus, Zevia sodas are zero in calories, contain no sugar or artificial sweeteners, and are Non-GMO project verified, Vegan, Kosher, gluten free, and clear in color because they lack harmful food dyes that often contain aluminum. Additionally, they are zero sodium, sweetened with 100% stevia (1), and contain simple, plant-based ingredients.
A good sale price for Zevia is usually $3.88/6 pack — we stock up when they go on sale!
Enjoy this old fashion treat:

- Served with ham
Staying with the subject of eating healthy for a moment, a local family in Olathe, Colorado raises hogs on Non-GMO and chemical free feed (they personally grown all their own feed for the animals on their small farm). It’s exactly the kind of healthy and nutritious (but sometimes hard to find) meat we like to eat. And, as it happens, I recently picked up our pork order. That means we’ll have delicious ham slices in the morning topped with Easy Healthy Gluten-Free Apple Crisp. In order to ensure this healthy meat remained nutritionally safe, I found an out-of-the-way butcher who smoked the bacon, ham and hocks without using nitrates. It was worth every bit of the extra two-hour drive to Montrose, CO to pick it up. My cost per pound ended up being less than the grocery store and the quality is unbeatable.
