Five Ingredient Brownies: These brownies are easy to make and guilt free with just a touch of sweetness, nut butter for an energy boost, and they have the robust flavor of roasted carob. A great snack for kids!
These are a family favorite, but I often get requests to bring them to work (from co-workers who are accustomed to the traditional brownie). All my co-workers love them. When I share them with friends and family, I leave half of the pan plain and sprinkle the other half with crushed pecans so that everyone can choose to eat what they like best.
If you’re watching your weight or processed sugar intake, this is the best Five Ingredient Brownie recipe available. With no added sugar, you can enjoy every bite knowing you won’t have a post-sugar dive in 30 minutes. No added sugar means no food for the harmful fungi, which helps keep the gut microbiome in balance.
Carob Powder is another staple at our house because two of my sons have had adverse reactions to chocolate for many years. This is a nice alternative ingredient with great health benefits. Carob powder is low in sodium and contains calcium, but without oxalates to inhibit the absorption of the calcium; it’s high in fiber, gluten-free, a natural remedy for diarrhea, caffeine-free, a good source of antioxidants, free of tyramine that may trigger migraines, and it is non-toxic to pets (Just in case your cat or dog were to get into a pan on the counter). I also use carob powder in my Super Fudge.
As for nut butter, in the past I used exclusively pecans ground in my Vita-mix wet container. Again, my sons did best with the pecans. Recently, however, I discovered that the almonds are sprayed with a fungicide to stop a fungal growth, but they are not labeled as such. The organic nuts are treated without chemicals, so I started buying organic almonds and, presto, the boys can magically eat almonds now! I applied this knowledge to peanuts with the same results, the boys now love and enjoy peanut butter. I continue to alternate with various nut butters in recipes for supplying a verity of nutrients. I buy all my organic nuts through Azure Standard.
These Five Ingredient Brownies go well with a fermented beverage called kefir soda.

5 Ingredient Brownies
Ingredients
- 1 cup Nut butter I grind pecans in my Vita-Mix. You can use any type of nut.
- 6 medium bananas Over ripe are great. I will even use peeled, frozen bananas.
- 1/2 cup roasted carob powder or cocoa/ cacao powder
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp baking powder
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375 degree F
-
Grease bar pan and set aside.
-
In the heavy duty mixer, Kitchen Aid, beat the bananas. Add the other ingredients and mix well.
-
Spread Brownies into a Bar Pan, 14 x 10.
-
Be sure to sprinkle the nut pieces on top, before baking. (I used Pecans and they are soft enough to crumble with a meat tenderizer in a zip lock baggie.) Bake @ 375 degrees F for 30 minutes or until tooth pick comes out clean
Recipe Notes
If you only have 3 bananas, cut the servings in half and use a 9" x 9" pan. If I have too many bananas, I've even increased the servings to 27 and used the large bar pan and they still come out great. P.S. you can change the servings right on the recipe and it will automatically adjust your ingredients.
Hope you and yours enjoy these as much as we do!
