Cinnamon Raisin Apple Crisp {Coconut Oil & Gluten-free}

This Cinnamon Raisin Apple Crisp recipe is made with wholesome ingredients, no refined sweeteners, is gluten-free, & contains nourishing coconut oil. (Easily make this recipe Paleo by using the topping in this Grain Free Berry Crisp recipe.)

Ingredients

Base Layer/Filling

  • 6-8 medium apples bitter varieties best
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 3 Tbsp coconut sugar
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice organic, avoid sulfites
  • 1 Tbsp flour gluten-free
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cardamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ginger
  • 1/16 tsp all spice

Topping

  • 3/4 cup thick rolled oats gluten-free
  • 1/2 cup coconut sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour gluten-free
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 6 Tbsp refined coconut oil or grass-fed butter
  • 1/2 cup walnuts chopped, optional

Instructions

Base Layer/Filling

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease 8x8 pan or deep dish pie plate.

  2. Peel, core, & slice apples. Add remaining filling ingredients & stir to combine. 

  3. Dump into greased pan. 

Topping

  1. Melt coconut oil/butter in small saucepan. 

  2. Combine remaining ingredients, add coconut oil/butter & stir with fork until well combined. 

  3. Pour topping over the base filling layer and spread evenly. 

  4. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees until golden brown and bubbly on top. 

Recipe Notes

For the base layer/filling you can use 3/4-1 tsp of apple pie spice instead of each individual spice to save yourself some time. That's what I do!
